In 1968, Dodge and Plymouth dominated the new car scene with its radically changed body styles as well as the incredibly successful marketing strategies with Warner Brothers Roadrunner and The Dodge Scat Pack. Dodge introduced the new Charger and Coronet lines, but only the Coronet was offered as a convertible.
This 68 Coronet convertible started off as a solid original small block 318 V8 with the incredible color combination of dark blue metallic, a white convertible top, and a light blue interior. It was discovered in a remote part of Virginia just waiting to be brought back to life. The engine was seized, and the trunk pan was rusty. The day the car showed up in our shop, we hooked up a battery and all the electrical worked, including the convertible top. When a car shows up in our shop like this with the electrical working, we know we have a good core car to work with.
The restoration of this Tribute RT includes a slightly built 360 magnum motor and the addition of RT badging and a bumblebee stripe. This Coronet also received an RT dual exhaust system and tips. The fresh, high-quality paint--the factory color combination with the stripe package--makes this one of the most stunning convertibles we have had in our shop.
SMG did not do an over-the-top restoration on this car in order to keep it a nice, affordable driver. The mechanicals of this car have been rebuilt, but the car is not a complete rebuild of all components.
This incredibly fun and powerful driver can compete in any local car show and hold its own on the highway.
